High-schoolers may earn community service hours by participating in monthly PTO meetings, PTO transitioning to PTSO

IMG_6163A message from our PTO President, Dara Whittle:

It feels great to get back into supporting this innovative program which provides our children exceptional experiences that foster the developmental growth and independence of all our children. I am thrilled to be a part of a community of people who are passionate about Montessori education. We truly are fortunate to have such a program available through CMS.

The Parent Teacher Organization at Sedgefield Montessori is continually evolving to keep up with the rapid changes of this growing program, and we are always looking for new ideas and new energy to help keep up the momentum for CMS Public Secondary Montessori. Check out our open leadership positions, and contact me if you have any questions.

One of the big changes this year is the addition of our high school to the already existing program. With this change, we decided to include our high school students in the PTO. High school students are invited to join us during our monthly meetings and can earn community service hours if they take an active role.  This opportunity will give students a chance to see how meetings are conducted, how decisions are made and will allow them a say in the decisions that affect their program. We will be transitioning ourselves to a Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) by the 2017-2018 school year.

Another change this year is that we are not conducting any General PTO meetings. We have decided to conduct monthly leadership meetings and keep them open to all PTO members, teachers and high school students. If you would like to hear about what is happening behind the scenes of your school, you are invited to attend. You can come as a passive listener, or you are invited to contribute your ideas. Of course, we welcome any new talent who is interested in contributing as a member of the leadership team to help us keep moving forward.

Parents, teachers and administration, if you have not joined the PTO, we hope you will consider joining now. Joining the PTO is a symbol of commitment to the support of your school. Our goal is for 100% participation. Join the PTO here now.

Our leadership meetings intend to include a mix of PTO business as well as allow for some socializing. We are planning to meet once a month at local restaurants around Charlotte to show our support to local businesses who are making conscience choices with their menus. Restaurant suggestions are welcome.

Our next meeting will be on September 20. Get the details here.
